Hooked on Ice Fishing: A Beginner's Guide to Ice Fishing in the Ottawa Valley

  1. Get the right gear: Ice fishing requires some specialized gear, such as an ice auger to drill a hole in the ice, an ice fishing rod and reel, and fishing tackle. It's also important to wear warm clothing and boots, as well as bring a portable shelter like a tent or an ice fishing shack, to protect from the cold and wind.

  2. Drill a hole: Once you've found a good spot, use an ice auger to drill a hole in the ice. The size of the hole will depend on the fish species you're targeting, but a hole that's about 6 inches in diameter is a good starting point.
