Looking for a basecamp for your next nature getaway? Think of us here at the Greystone on Golden Lake.
In the heart of the Ottawa Valley, along the shores of Golden Lake, we are surrounded by stunning wilderness. There is no shortage of outdoor activities you can do, from canoeing along the river, biking in the surrounding area, and, of course, hiking.
Today, we’re exploring one of the hiking trails closest to us! Tramore Cliffs trailhead is less than a 5-minute drive from the Greystone, making it the perfect activity to fit into your cottage itinerary.
The hike is about 3 kilometres out and back, with a breathtaking lookout at the top. The trailhead can be difficult to find at first, but if you look down, you can see where the path is worn. The trail meanders through a hardwood forest and passes by a gorgeous rocky creek. Although it is a shorter trail, the elevation gain gets the blood pumping. Once you get to the top, there are a few different lookout points to enjoy. Make sure you go all the way to the end for a panoramic view of Golden Lake and the Boncherre River, with the picturesque backdrop of the Openego Hills. Leave yourself lots of time to have a seat up here and enjoy the rewards of getting off the beaten path! It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a packed lunch and appreciate the beauty of cottage country!

There are many stunning hikes in the area, but the combination of the peaceful forest, the sounds of the creek, and the magnificent view at the top, all in 3 kilometres, makes this hike extra special!
The best part? After the hike, you can come back to Golden Lake and cool down with a dip in the lake! Enjoy a stay in one of our luxury cottages or a room in our charming bed and breakfast, as the perfect base for your next nature getaway in Ontario!
